Program Description

Nursing assistants and home health aides are essential members of today’s healthcare teams, performing hands-on resident/client care and routine tasks for individuals of various ages and health conditions. Brainz’s program provides basic skills training, including the fundamentals of how to check and monitor vital signs and deal with a wide range of resident/client needs.

Program start and location

Courses are offered throughout the year.  All courses are taught at Brainz, located at 10299 University Avenue NE, Blaine, MN 55449.

What you will learn

  • Brainz’s      Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide coursework will prepare you to perform      routine healthcare tasks for today’s increasingly diverse population.
  • The courses cover human      physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs; health and illness; death      and dying and resident/client/employee rights.
  • You will learn behavior      management, infection control and the importance of being a responsible      and dependable member of a healthcare team while focusing on      resident–centered care vs. institution–centered care.
  • Click here to read more…You will receive training in basic skills (bathing, dressing, grooming, exercising and toileting) and learn how to check and monitor vital signs—blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration and pain.
    • You will have the opportunity to apply your skills during on-campus laboratory exercises and clinical experience in a Minnesota Department of Health-approved long-term care facility.
    • You also will learn the fundamentals of wellness and stress management for the caregiver.
    • Upon completion of the coursework, you will be eligible to take the NATO (Nursing Assistant Test-Out) exam and be placed on the Minnesota Department of Health’s Nursing Assistant registry

 

How You Apply

  • To register in any of these courses, you must submit an Application and pass a reading assessment test. Registration may be done online or in person at the Brainz office located at 10299, University Avenue NE, Blaine, MN 55449.
  • Students are accepted into this course throughout the year.

 

Important Information when Considering Registering for a NAHA Course

  • All students registered in an Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide course must pass a criminal background check prior to assignment in a clinical facility. Brainz is not able to guarantee placement of students in a clinical facility if the criminal background check is not passed. You should know that all Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide courses include a clinical component, which must be satisfactorily completed in order to pass the course.
  • For more information about the background study process and disqualifying crimes, contact the Minnesota Department of Human Services at 651-296-3802.
  • The Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide course has a very strict attendance policy put in place in order to meet the Minnesota Department of Health requirements for approved nursing assistant programs. For this reason, attendance at ALL class and clinical hours is mandatory in order to satisfactorily complete the training program.

Requirements for all NAHA Courses Must:

  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Provide evidence of a negative mantoux or chest x-ray prior to first clinical date and within 90 days of the last clinical date.
  • Pay a registration  fee
  • Provide proof of immunity to specified diseases

Job Outlook
Overall, employment of nursing and home health aides is projected to grow by 18 percent through 2018, which is faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Many of the new jobs will be in nursing and residential care facilities, and growth will be particularly robust in community care facilities for the elderly.
